• He had his B.E in Civil Engineering in 1978 from Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology, Shibpore; erstwhile known as Bengal Engineering College under University of Calcutta.
• He completed M. Tech from IIT, Kharagpur in 1981.
• He also had Master of Engineering in Hydraulic Engineering in 1999 with specialization in 'Coastal Engineering and Port Development' from ‘IHE’-'International Institute for Infrastructural Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering', Delft, The
• Chakraborty has recently submitted his PhD Thesis on “Sea Level Rise due to Climate Change and Its Impact along the Coast of Mumbai” to The Assam Royal Global University, Guwahati and presently degree is awaited.
• He has 8 Publications in International and 6 in National Journals and has authored a book on 'Sea Level Rise'. He has reviewed papers at couple of International Journals and Conferences.
• He is a Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and Life Member of PIANC.
• He has about 40 plus years of experience in Ports and Marine Works. Formerly he was Chief of Infrastructure Division of Haldia Dock under Kolkata Port Trust. After taking Voluntary Retirement from Port Services in 2008, he worked in large marine projects involving Dredging, Reclamation etc.
• He is prolific writer of repute with many publications in his credit.
